A local newspaper prints an article about a local elementary school’s poor academic records. The author of the article blames the school’s problems on the teachers at the school. You decide to write a note to the editor in response to the article. Taking what you have learned in the class into consideration, what would your response to the article be? Responses must be six-page in length and based on relevant research findings, theoretical tenets, and points brought up in class discussions/exercises.
A. Your response to this question must be supported by relevant theoretical and/or empirical literature. In order to meet the requirements for this paper, you must draw on at least four sources when providing your response. Your argument can be backed up by a combination of research findings and suggestions arrived at from the application of theories.
B. You don’t have to disagree with the article’s main point (i.e., blaming the teachers for the school’s problems). In fact, you may agree that the teachers are to blame and then discuss what may be contributing to the teachers’ poor job. What are factors that can contribute to making the teacher’s job a difficult one?
C. On the other hand, you may choose to argue AGAINST the author’s claim. What other factors might contribute to an elementary school’s poor academic records?
This assignment will be completed in steps with small assignments that lead to the larger final assignment. Additionally, you will be asked to submit a first and final draft of the paper towards the end of the semester.
