Using the ‘elements of a proposal’ guidelines, submit an Operations Consulting Proposal based on your observation of an existing organization. Your focus should be on ‘Waiting Line’ or a ‘Sustainability’ issues.
Visit an organization of your choice. Observe a part of their operations that has a ‘waiting line’ or ‘sustainability’ issues. Collect all the information that you deem necessary to describe the operation, the problem [For example, go to a store/supermarket with multiple checkout lines and observe them for one hour. For one of the regular (not “express”) lines, record the arrival rate and the service times. Also, across all of the lines, make note of any reneging, balking, or line jumping that you observe.] Then write a proposal that:
Write a short report about what you have seen.
Qualitatively, how he problem manifested during your observation [for the example of supermarket checkout, how did these lines behave? How long did the lines grow? Did any customers seem dissatisfied with the length of their respective wait? Did the store seem to have enough servers available for this time of day? ]
Propose an improvement project, based on waiting line model, to solve the store’s problem
Discuss about the potential solutions for this probem, without going through the math.
Proposal Format: 2-3 pages, single-space within the paragraph, double-space between paragraphs, NOT including references/appendices
Please note that your report #2 should be focused on the quantitative analysis of your project. It is a short report, between 2-3 pages (Appendix not included). Single space within paragraph, double-spaced between paragraphs. Font size 12.
While the final content depends on your project, typically a CEC#2 report must contain at least the following:
1. Summary of the problem
2. Summary of the proposed solution
3. Performance analyses:
3.a Current System
3.b Proposed new system(s)
4. Discussion (ie. identify the benefits from your proposed system(s)
5. Implementation Plan
